Located in Cheyenne, the Wyoming State Historical Society was founded in 1953. It provides direction and support for historical research and preservation in the state. Made up of members from within Wyoming, as well as from other states and countries, the Society is open to any individual interested in the history of Wyoming and the West.

The Society publishes the award-winning "Annals of Wyoming: The Wyoming History Journal" in conjunction with the University of Wyoming History Department and the American Heritage Center. Its newsletter "Wyoming History News" is published on a monthly basis. In addition, the Society offers a publications program to help authors seeking to publish works on the history of Wyoming. Wyoming State Historical Society Activities -

One of the most popular activities the Society is known for is its annual trek, which is a terrific way to better understand Wyoming. The Society also supports historical preservation efforts across the state as well as honors individuals and organizations for contributions to Wyoming history via an annual awards program. Since the early 1980s, the Society has been a strong supporter of Wyoming History Day, an important yearly event that's overseen by the American Heritage Center.
